Last night, my patient greeted me with the statement "my stomach is a-bubblin'". This is how he described having gas, or feeling constipated, or feeling hungry. The jury's still out.
I'm a 20-something, Christian, red-haired nurse in a Cardiac ICU. I'm a person working in an intense job, seeing the best and worst of life, and seeing it through eyes shaped by knowing and loving God. It's a lot to take in sometimes, so I decided to write it all out... something of a record of what I'm learning, experiencing, and the things that shape me. It just seemed like it was worth documenting.
Let me make this clear: I love my job! I love it so much, in fact, that I would like to keep my job. Because of this, and the ethical/legal obligation to respect patient confidentiality, I'll never post identifying information about patients on the blog. I may paraphrase scenarios, or describe interactions, or document other musings, but my patients' identities will always be kept confidential. I will always address them as "Mr/Ms. X, Y, or Z".
